It is possible but not easy. If you want a laid-back career you can do whenever you want and however you want, you aren’t being realistic. As Justin said, there are many other roles involved in being a writer than just writing. If you are unknown with no strong publishing connections, your ideal writing job might exist in your future but to get there are years of working long hours and reaching out to strangers.
